Welcome to http://php-man-gateway.sourceforge.net/

The PHP-man-gateway project is just getting off the ground here at Sourceforge, so if you'll bear with us while we get all our files transferred and mailing lists set up and CVS configured and all that good stuff, we'll let you know when things can get started. Or something.

The PHP-man-gateway is a gateway to the unix 'man' command, written in PHP and running on a web server residing on a Unix or Unix-ish system. mattman.dhs.org/man.php should always have the latest version running, unless I've had to boot to some other operating system.

Anyways, check back often, as I'll try and stay as up-to-date as possible with documentation and bugfixes and new features and stuff like that. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mm1173@users.sourceforge.net.

man.php is now online. Source is available here for you to peruse at your leisure. Features include title bar updating, escaping bad characters (&, <, >), access to different sections of manual with optional section number in the dialog box.

The TODO list for this present version:

  • Get rid of page numbers
  • Formatting of output - bold, italics, underlines, font sizes, etc.
  • Parse for different man pages command(n) and link to them
  • Hyperlinks for WWW and email addresses

Once we get these basic functions installed, then it's time to really make a neat system. Interfaces to local documentation (/usr/share/doc), info, and other sources of help could could be added as developed, as well as a search/apropos type of utility. Contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
